King Charles III continued the customs that his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, started.
Six weeks after his coronation on May 6, the King will have a birthday parade called Trooping the Color in central London in June. The palace has announced that the annual festival, in which hundreds of soldiers march at the Horse Guards Parade and then fly over Buckingham Palace, will take place on June 17, 2023.

Queen Elizabeth‘s real birthday was April 21, but the public celebrated it in June because the weather is better at that time. Even though King Charles’s birthday is in November, it looks like the public celebrations will happen around the same time as his mother’s.
People think the tradition began in 1748 when King George II was in power. George II was born in October, but the annual Trooping of the Color parade became a way to honour both the monarch and the military.
Trooping the Color has been going on for more than 200 years, but it became a big deal during Queen Elizabeth’s historic 70-year reign. During that time, TV and, later, color photos brought the pageantry to life for millions worldwide and put the royal family on display.
Buckingham Palace says that more than 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians will perform a spectacular show of military precision, horsemanship, and music to celebrate King Charles’ birthday. After the royal family members who aren’t riding horses take a carriage ride from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards, King Charles will take the salute at the parade.
Later, the family will stand on the famous palace balcony to watch as jets from the Royal Air Force and the Red Arrows fly by. This year’s Trooping the Colour was part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which honor the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

Kate Middleton will also get a new title and job that day. Her father-in-law has named her the new honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards. Since she married Prince William in 2011, Kate is 40 and has been honoring that guard’s regiment on most St. Patrick’s Day holidays.

Prince William, who is 40, used to be a Colonel of the Irish Guards. Now, his father has made him Colonel of the Welsh Guards. This fits with his new job as Prince of Wales, which the King gave him soon after Queen Elizabeth’s death on September 8.
In the meantime, Queen Camilla has been made Colonel of the Grenadier Guards. This is an honor that Prince Andrew’s late mother took away from him.
With the announcement of the new Colonels, some questions that had come up since Prince Andrew lost his title because of the scandal over his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein have been answered.
Some people thought that his sister, Princess Anne, would get it. The palace said she would still be Colonel of the Blues and Royals Household Cavalry regiment.
