In Gaffney, 2 People Were Shot at the Timken Plant in South Carolina

Two people were killed in a murder-suicide at a Gaffney industrial company on 1 March 2023, Wednesday morning. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Timken Plant at 100 Timken Road just before 7 a.m. on March 1 for a shooting that resulted in injuries.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Mueller, responding deputies discovered a girl with several gunshot wounds in the parking lot and a male who seemed to have self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Both were taken to the hospital but later passed away from their wounds. After informing the next of kin, the Cherokee County Coroner will disclose the identities of the deceased.

According to Mueller, there has never been a shooter inside the plant and the neighborhood is not in danger. Many Timken workers saw the shooting as they arrived to work.

“This was not a random act of violence. The shooter and the victim knew each other in this case and both worked at the Timken plant,” Mueller said. “We are asking people to pray for the impacted families and the Timken plant family as they deal with this tragic event.”

The sheriff’s office is still looking into the murder-suicide. Therefore, no further information will be disclosed. The plant’s spokesman, Scott Schroeder, stated that operations for the day had ended and that workers may either go home or visit the facility to talk to bereavement counselors.
