Idaho House To Be Demolish Where Four Students Were Killed

The owner of the house where four University of Idaho students were killed last year has given the property to the university free of charge, and the university president said on Friday, 24 Feb 2023. that the house will be demolished in the coming months. What will happen to the lot is still unknown.

“This is a healing step and removes the physical structure where the crime that shook our community was committed,” University of Idaho President Scott Green said in a statement. “Demolition also removes efforts to further sensationalize the crime scene.”

As per the report, A spokesperson for the University of Idaho, Jodi Walker, told The Washington Post that the university had been granted the property and intended to demolish it by the end of the spring semester.

“We are evaluating options where students may be involved in the future development of the property,” the president’s statement said.

A garden memorial for the four students has been announced by the university. No specific spot on campus has been chosen for it yet.

Associate professor of anthropology and psychological sciences at the University of Connecticut Dimitris Xygalatas says that it is usual for crime scenes to be demolished, abandoned, or reused following a catastrophe.

“Even as the pain remains, the knowledge that a tangible reminder of it has been undone can be soothing,” Xygalatas wrote last year in the Conversation, a nonprofit news website.
