Live Activities are interactive notifications that stay up to date. They were added to iOS 16 and let you keep an eye on things happening right now from the Lock Screen. For example, if you’re watching a sports game, you can see the latest score on the Lock Screen. If you’re waiting for an Uber, you can watch for your driver to get closer.

Live Activities also work with Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. During a Premier League game, for example, Dynamic Island shows a live-updating scoreboard on either side of the True Depth camera pill that shows how many goals each team has scored. When you hold down on Dynamic Island for a long time, it grows to show how much time has passed and what’s happening on the field.

With the release of iOS 16.2, Apple added a setting that will let Live Activities update more often, but it will also drain the iPhone battery faster.

Even though it uses more battery, this option is likely to be welcomed by users who depend on apps that use Live Activities to give up-to-date information, like travel and transit times. Here’s how to turn it on for each app separately.

Before you try to follow the steps below, make sure that Live Activities are turned on for your iPhone. Also, make sure you have iOS 16.2 on your iPhone. Go to Settings > General > Software Update to see if your device is up to date.

  • Open the app called “Settings” on your iPhone.
  • Choose an app that can be used with Live Activities. Here, we’re going to choose the TV app.
  • Tap Live Activities, and make sure that the Live Activities switch for the app is turned on.
  • Turn the switch next to More Often Updates on and off.

If you don’t see the option for More Frequent Updates, it may be because the app you’re trying to turn it on for hasn’t been updated to support the feature yet. In that case, you may want to ask the developer when they plan to add it.
