Hocus Pocus Season 2: When Will It Be Renewed?

It’s good to see the Sanderson girls again. Disney+ brings us back to Salem over 30 years after the original Hocus Pocus. Disney lost about $16.5 million on the first film. Therefore, it was widely regarded as a failure. With time, however, Hocus Pocus has become a cherished cult classic, with sales and streaming statistics increasing every October.

The sequel Hocus Pocus will be directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) and written by Jen D’Angelo for the screen (Workaholics). After initially being attached to the helm, Adam Shankman (Enchanted) dropped out to focus on the production of the sequel to his hit film, Disenchanted. Along with Hocus Pocus co-writer David Kirschner and directors Lynn Harris (The 5th Wave) and Steven Haft, he continued on as a producer. John Debner, who composed the score for the first film and will do so again for the sequel, is also returning.

Plot Of The Hocus Pocus Season 2

As the sun crested the horizon in 1993, our final glimpse of the Sanderson Sisters was of them crumbling to dust as if Thanos had snapped his fingers. However, as the film concluded, the infamous book’s eye opened again, suggesting they could return.

When Becca (Whitney Peak), Cassie (Lilia Buckingham) and Izzy (Belissa Escobedo) are celebrating Becca’s 16th birthday with a fun witchy ritual, they mistakenly call the Sanderson sisters 29 years after the events of Hocus Pocus. Together, they must figure out how to permanently foil the sisters’ plans.

Characters Of Hocus Pocus Season 2

Winnifred Mary and Sarah Sanderson will be played once again by Bette Midler (The First Wives Club), Kathy Najimy (Veep) and Sarah Jessica Parker (And Just Like That.), respectively. All three of these actresses previously portrayed these characters on other television shows. Also returning from the original cast is Doug Jones (The Shape of Water), who will play Winnifred’s zombified ex-boyfriend Billy Butcherson. Jones was initially cast in the role.

Whitney Peak, who plays the main character Becca has previously starred in television shows such as “Home Before Dark” and “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” so she is no stranger to weird situations. Home Before Dark and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina are both examples. The part of Becca’s best friend Izzy will be portrayed by Belissa Escobedo who has previously been in American Horror Stories. Lillia Buckingham, best known for her appearance in Crown Lake, will take on the role of the pair’s mutual friend Cassie.

Sam Richardson and Tony Hale, who appeared in Veep, will also participate in the production. Richardson will portray Gilbert, the proprietor of “The Olde Salem Magic Shoppe,” and Hale will play Jefry Trask, the Mayor of Salem. The figure known only as “The Witch” is a fascinating new addition to the ensemble of Hocus Pocus 2 which was recently announced. This enigmatic new character will be played by Hannah Waddingham, perhaps best recognized for her parts in the films Sex Education and Ted Lasso.

Thora Birch who played Dani Dennison in the first Hocus Pocus Season 2 film, has already said that she will, sadly, not be involved in the sequel due to scheduling difficulties with the imminent release of Hocus Pocus on Netflix on Wednesday. It is not yet known if Omri Katz who played Dani’s older brother Max and Vanessa Shaw who played Max’s crush Allison, will return for Hocus Pocus 2, but both of their roles in the first film have been confirmed for the sequel.

In addition, Sean Murray who performed the human version of Thackery Binx and Jason Marsden who provided the voice for the cat version of the character, will not be participating in the sequel’s production. It is unknown whether the black cat seen in the trailer will have a voice or, if it does, who will provide that voice.

On a lighter note, it’s been said that there will be a scenario in which the Sanderson sisters will meet drag queen versions of themselves. Ginger Minj, Cornbread Jeté and Kahmora Hall, three contestants from the reality show RuPaul’s Drag Race, will appear at some point as the Sanderson sisters who will be fantastic.
