Former Republican Congressman Declares Run For Governorship In North Carolina

On Saturday, former Republican Rep. Mark Walker announced his run for governor of North Carolina, pledging to campaign on education, economic “freedom,” and “protecting” children and families.

Walker, who formerly served as vice chair of the House Republican Conference and previously represented the state’s 6th Congressional District for six years, declared his candidacy at a Kernersville, North Carolina, launch event.

“We are North Carolina proud we love our state and our nation, and God calls us to defend our friends, families, and freedoms,” he stated.

“We participate in our republic and advance conservative ideas because we believe that individual liberties and respect for God-given rights make us strong.”

During his address, Walker advocated for the repeal of “federal mandates” for education, arguing that decision-making should be restored to school boards and parents.

“We cannot fundamentally change our trajectory until we implement true education reform in our state.” “This is how we will empower the American family in the twenty-first century,” he explained.

Walker believes North Carolina has the potential to lead the country in various economic sectors, but it must keep up with the number of people flocking to the state.

He stated that the state should improve infrastructure on its highways and ports and provide broadband access to all areas.

He also stated that he would be “tireless” in his opposition to the use of gender-affirming care for transgender youngsters, which he claims is harmful to children and families.

In the primary, Walker will face at least Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R), who has emerged as an early leader for the nomination, and state Treasurer Dale Folwell. Other candidates may enter the race as well.

“We need a candidate who can withstand a level of scrutiny unprecedented in our state’s history.” “Our candidate for governor will be scrutinized, and that candidate must be able to withstand a thorough examination by the press and our political opponents,” Walker said. “I am that candidate, and I believe I am the only one who can win both the primary and the general election.”

Walker had run for an open Senate seat last year to replace retiring Sen. Richard Burr (R) but finished third in the Republican primary.
