For All Mankind Season 3: Release Date Status, Cast, and Trailer

For All Mankind has already been renewed by Apple TV+. Here’s everything we know about For All Mankind Season 3, including the release date and story details.
Everything you need to know about the upcoming third season of For All Mankind, including the premiere date and plot synopsis, is right here. Apple TV+’s alternative history series speculates on what might have happened in 1969 if the Soviet Union had beaten the United States to the moon, and how that might have altered the course of history.

It’s 1983 when season 2 of For All Mankind picks up, ten years after the events of season 1. The space race continues in season 2 as Washington, DC politics and the Department of Defense increasingly gain more control over operations at NASA, and the threat of nuclear war looms large.

While Ronald Reagan is still president and the Soviets and Americans are still the leaders in space exploration, the season 2 storylines take an alternate reality first introduced in season 1 even further into account. The trend is expected to continue in For All Mankind Season 3.

For All Mankind’s second season finale resolves the majority of the conflict, but the show teases what’s to come in the third season. The final moments of the season finale set up For All Mankind season 3 when an unidentified astronaut, or “cosmonaut,” steps foot on Mars in the year 1995.

Series creator Ronald D. Moore and co-showrunners Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi have a grand vision, creating storylines through season 7. According to an interview with the cast and showrunners (via SYFY), the series will “continue to move further away from real history as the story skips ahead a decade each season,” which the writers confirmed in the interview. That said, here’s what to expect from For All Mankind season 3.

For All Mankind Season 3 Renewal

For All Mankind Season, 3 was already confirmed by Apple TV+ in December 2020, months before the premiere of season 2. Joel Kinnaman, Shantel VanSanten, and Krys Marshall have already been confirmed to return for season 3, with Sonya Walger, Wrenn Schmidt, and Jodi Balfour will also likely return among several others. However, Michael Dorman and Sarah Jones will probably not be involved in season 3 after their characters, Gordo and Tracy, died at the end of the Apple TV+ show.

For All Mankind Season 3 Release Date

For All Mankind debuted on November 1, 2019, and was revived by Apple TV+ in October 2019 for a second season, which aired on February 19, 2021. Prior to the second season’s release, production on the third season began in December 2020. The third season premiered on June 10th, 2022.

For All Mankind Season 3 Storyline

The writers of For All Mankind hinted at the show’s future direction by having Ellen advocate for a Mars mission as early as season 2 of the show’s alternate history. Season 3 of For All Mankind will most likely take place on Mars, but the missions appear to be very different from those of the real-life 1990s Mars explorations. As the program began looking for less expensive ways to explore space, NASA announced the Mars Surveyor program in 1995. However, these missions involved observer probes that studied the planet remotely.

Due to their ten-year age difference and the possibility that they could all be employed by the United States Space and Rocket Administration (NASA) at that point, another For All Mankind time jump is possible following this season’s For All Mankind time jump to the 1990s. If so, it will be interesting to see how the show will choose to transform the young characters in order to age them a whole decade when in reality, only a year will have passed between filming.
