The Marion County Sheriff’s Office stated Tuesday that a woman accused of fatally sh00ting her Florida neighbor in a quarrel involving the murd*red mother’s children was arrested.
Susan Louise Lorincz, 58, was arrested and charged with manslaughter with a firearm, culpable negligence, battery, and two counts of assault, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s office, Lorincz, who is white, is suspected of fatally sh00ting Ajike “AJ” Owens, who is Black, through a closed door in Ocala on Friday night.
Civil rights lawyer Ben Crump, who represents the Owens family, and others have called for an arrest, raising concerns about race and Florida’s “stand your ground” self-defense law.
“While we are relieved that the woman is apparently responsible for the tragic ki!!ing of Ajike ‘AJ’ Owens has been arrested, we are no less concerned that accountability has taken this long because archaic laws like Stand Your Ground exist,” Owens’ family attorneys, including Crump, said in a statement.
The sh00ting took place at 9 p.m. on Friday. Lorincz had grown frustrated with Owens’ children playing in a neighboring field and had “engaged in an argument” with them.
Lorincz tossed a roller skate at Owens’ 10-year-old son and swung an umbrella at him and a brother during the fight. Owens then repeatedly banged on Lorincz’s door, and Lorincz shot her through the door.
Owens was shot in the upper chest and d!ed as a result.
Lorincz told detectives she acted in self-defense “and that Owens had been trying to break down her door before she discharged her firearm.
Sheriff Billy Woods stated that investigators were compelled by law to explore whether Florida’s “stand your ground” legislation applied before making an arrest. According to Woods, the deαth of Owens was unjustified by the law of self-defense.
“It was simply a ki!!ing,” he explained.

Crump stated earlier Tuesday that there could be no reason for the homicide.
“There is no way she should believe that the person knocking on the door is capable of causing her deαth or imminent bodily harm,” Crump said. “And if she does feel afraid, call the cops.” “Why would you sh00t through a metal door?”
Owens was a mother of four. Lorincz fired one shot through the door.
Crump claimed that Owens’ children were playing in a field outside an apartment complex when the lady who subsequently shot her yelled at them. According to him, one of the youngsters left an iPad, which the mother snatched.

A sheriff’s incident report, redacted with names blacked out, notes that deputies were told at the scene that an iPad had been taken by a lady described as a suspect at the time.
Deputies were responding to a trespassing call that night when they were alerted of a gunshot, and they arrived to discover Owens lying in the grass not breathing after being shot.
The two women had previous disagreements. Manslaughter with a firearm is a felony punishable by up to 30 years in Jail. It was unclear late Tuesday whether Lorincz had an attorney to speak for her.
