A FedEx pilot was shot dead in his bed at 3 a.m ., according to Action News 5. The pilot was staying in a house in Sherwood Forest, which is a neighborhood right next to the University of Memphis Park Avenue campus.
FedEx has more than 5,500 of the most experienced pilots in the world on its staff. Many have served in the military. If they live outside of Memphis but will be flying out of the Memphis hub, they stay the night in a crash pad, a cheap place to rent close to the airport.
At 12:10 Tuesday morning, a crime was committed on a pilot’s crash pad. Joyce Peterson post a tweet regarding this incident-

After the shooting, Dillon Munn, who is 23 years old, ran to the 3500 block of Allandale Road to see how his mother was doing. She lives on the other side of the street from where the FedEx pilot was shot.
Someone started shooting at the crash pad just after midnight, according to MPD.
”What’s going through my mind? I’m really trying to figure out what happened,” said Munn. “Every time I see [the pilots], they wave and smile. Never was a problem. Like I said, it’s pilots, they got stuff to live for, you know what I’m saying? I’m pretty sure they ain’t out here riskin’ it.”
MPD said there are no eyewitnesses, surveillance videos, suspect information, or reasons for the shooting. Researchers did find. At the crime scene, they found shell casings for 223-caliber bullets, which can be used in an AR-15 or another type of rifle.

There were big bullet holes in the house’s front door, windows, and siding. There were several rounds in the front bedroom. There was glass everywhere.
MPD said the pilot, whose name has not been released, was taken to Regional One in not-serious condition after being hit in the back near his right shoulder.
FedEx told Action News 5 in a statement:
“Our thoughts remain focused on the well-being of our team member. We are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities at this time.”
Munn is thinking about his mother and about moving her to a safer area.
“It’s messed up right here, right now in Memphis. It really is, especially dealing with the youth. You’ve got so much crime going on. You can’t go anywhere without getting your car broken into,” said Munn, “When is it going to stop? When is it going to stop?
Authorities have not disclosed any suspect information, and they are now investigating.
