Hugh Jackman Confirms Deadpool 3 Will Include Time Travel

Hugh Jackman says that Logan, aka Wolverine, will travel through time in Deadpool 3 when he comes back to play the famous role. The X-Men will get new looks in the next phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Deadpool 3 will be a blast from the past. After the 2017 movie Logan, in which he played Wolverine for the last time, Jackman is coming back to the comic book genre. In a surprise announcement earlier this fall, he and Ryan Reynolds said that the two Marvel icons would share the screen in the third Deadpool movie. After Disney bought 21st Century Fox, Wade Wilson will be officially added to the MCU. This will happen in Deadpool 3.

Even though Deadpool 3 won’t come out until November 2024, Jackman has already given away a central plot point. During an appearance on Sirius XM, Jackman talks about what it would be like to be asked to join the Deadpool sequel this fall. Without giving too much away, the Australian actor says there will be some time travel in Deadpool 3. Jackman noted that it was important that his return as Wolverine didn’t change how the movie Logan ended. Jackman also said that it was important to him and likely to his fans as well, saying the following:

Deadpool 3 Will Include Time Travel

But because, you know, the science they have a way to move around in time in the Marvel world, we can now go back in time. So I don’t have to mess with the Logan timeline, which was essential to me and probably to the fans.

What This Says About Wolverine’s First Appearance In The MCU?

Since Jackman announced that he would be in Deadpool 3, people have been talking about how they would bring the character back. One of the best things about Logan was how it gave Wolverine’s almost 20-year-long story arc in the X-Men movies a heroic ending. It makes sense that Jackman would only return if they kept the way Logan’s story ended. People thought Wolverine would come back either by traveling through time or being a different version of himself from another universe.

Since time travel is the main plot point of Deadpool 3, it sets up a few different possibilities. One possibility is that Deadpool will go back in time and meet Wolverine when he was younger, a long time before Logan’s sad ending. It would make sense to do this while Wade is still in the old X-Men movie universe before he joins the MCU. Another possibility, which would be a twist, is that once Deadpool is in the MCU, he goes back in time and meets Wolverine from Earth-616. This would give Jackman more time to play Wolverine in the MCU and give him a chance to play Logan again, but this time with other Marvel characters.

There are probably a lot of other ways Deadpool 3 could use time travel to bring Wolverine into the story. So far, it hasn’t been made clear if this will be the last time Jackman plays Wolverine. But if he wants to be a long-term part of the MCU, the franchise may have already made that possible. She-Easter Hulk’s egg about Wolverine being in the MCU may have been done for Jackman’s benefit. Since Deadpool 3 will probably start filming in 2023, we won’t know what’s going on with Wolverine’s trip through time until then.
