TMZ says that Coolio died on Wednesday at the age of 59. Coolio’s longtime manager, Juarez, told the outlet that the rapper was at a friend’s house in Los Angeles when he left to go to the bathroom. After a reasonable amount of time, he didn’t come back, so his friend called out to him, but he didn’t answer.
Concerned, the friend went into the bathroom and saw Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr., lying on the floor. Right away, around 4 p.m. local time, the paramedics were called.
Coolio was pronounced dead at the scene after what may have been a heart attack. But the official cause of death has not yet been found.
The rapper started his career in the 1980s. His song “Gangsta’s Paradise,” which was in the movie “Dangerous Minds” and won him the 1996 Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance, made him famous in 1995. His death happened only four days after he posted about his most recent show in Texas on Instagram, where many of his fans left condolences.
One loyal fan wrote, “It’s crazy that he just posted a week ago and has already died,” while many others wrote, “Rest in peace.”

Who Is Coolio?
A bio on Coolio’s website says that he grew up in Compton, California. In 1994, he told the Los Angeles Times about how he got into the drug scene but was able to get out by becoming a firefighter.
He told the publication, “I wasn’t looking for a job; I was looking for a way to clean up, a way to get away from drugs.” “I knew I had to stop because it was going to kill me. The training gave me the discipline I needed to be a firefighter. Every day, we ran. I didn’t drink, smoke, or do any of the other things I usually did.” In the 1980s, he started rapping and became famous in the underground scene.
The first song that really put him on the map was “Fantastic Voyage.” “Gangsta’s Paradise,” from the soundtrack to the movie “Dangerous Minds,” is one of his most famous songs. It made him a huge star. In 1996, he won a Grammy for the song.
It’s still going strong in the age of streaming. In July 2022, the song reached a milestone of one billion views on YouTube. In a recent interview, he said, “It’s one of those songs that speaks to people of all ages.” “I didn’t use any popular phrases… I think that made it last forever.”
His website says that he has sold more than 17 million records over the course of his career.
Some Millennials love Coolio because he wrote the theme song for the popular Nickelodeon show “Kenan and Kel” and contributed to the album “Dexter’s Laboratory: The Hip-Hop Experiment,” which had songs by different hip-hop artists that were inspired by the Cartoon Network show.
