An announcement about Renaissance was made on her website hours before Friday night’s release of Act 1. This three-part album was recorded over the course of three years, all while the epidemic was in full swing. “I realised that when I took time to sit quietly, I was also able to come up with some of my best ideas,” she explained. The lead single “Break My Soul” borrows the 1993 house classic “Show Me Love” by Robin S., and Big Freedia’s “Explode,” which has her trademark bounce sound, was released in 2014. Beyoncé’s 20th solo top 10 song on the Billboard Hot 100 was the soulful “Break My Soul,” which reached at number seven. To add, Renaissance is her first solo album since 2016’s chart-topping Lemonade.

Towards the end of her comment on her blog, Queen Bey said, “To all of my fans: I hope you find delight in this music. I pray it motivates you to let go of the nervous energy and dance it out. Ha! And to know and appreciate how special, powerful, and alluring you are. Love you guys a lot, B.

The statement on her website goes on to say, “Thank you to all of the pioneers who originate culture, to all of the fallen angels whose achievements have gone unacknowledged for far too long.”
