The Batman came out in March 2022, starting a new era for the Dark Knight. Here’s everything you need to know about The Batman 2, including the latest news about The Joker and the spin-off shows. Matt Reeves directed The Batman, which was written by him and Peter Craig. It shows Batman in his second year as Gotham City’s protector. Every time a comic book movie comes out, people ask if there will be a sequel, and The Batman gives hints that there are more stories to tell in this world.
In The Batman, Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) is looking into a series of murders committed by The Riddler (Paul Dano), who keeps leaving clues for the Caped Crusader at each scene. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) and Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Zo Kravitz), Batman must try to figure out the clues and stop Dano’s The Riddler before he kills someone else, but not before he learns a lot about Gotham City’s elite.
The Batman can be read on its own, but it is also set up to start its own universe. This is shown by a mix of movies and spin-off shows on HBO Max, which are not part of the rest of the DC Extended Universe. Here’s everything you need to know about The Batman 2, like who might be back, when it will come out, and if the Joker will be in it.

Batman 2 Is Happening
Matt Reeves said that early talks are going on for a sequel to The Batman and that two more parts are planned for the future. Warner Bros. has talked about three or even four new series that will be based on The Batman. One of them, about the Gotham City Police Department, has been canceled, but there will be more about Arkham Asylum, The Penguin, and maybe even Catwoman.
So it makes sense that the movie would also get a sequel. It’s another Batman movie, and given how well the first one with Robert Pattinson did, it makes sense to make another one. After all, the movie itself sets up some plot points for The Batman 2, including a lot of footage of Barry Keoghan as the Joker.
How The Batman’s Ending Sets Up A Sequel
In the second-to-last scene of The Batman, the Riddler makes friends with the Joker in Arkham Asylum, hinting that the two bad guys might work together in The Batman 2. (or the Arkham Asylum show). The clue in Joker’s riddle might be that the Court of Owls, a gang made up of some of Gotham’s wealthiest people, is coming to town. A voiceover from Pattinson’s Caped Crusader says that after Carmine Falcone’s death, Gotham will rebuild, but there will be more chaos and corruption than ever before.
The Batman 2 could also bring back Barry Keoghan’s Joker. Even though he only shows up in the last scene of The Batman, a deleted scene was released that shows him talking to Batman for 5 minutes. The scene wasn’t in the movie because the studios thought it would take away from Paul Dano’s role as the Riddler. Based on how great Keoghan was in the clip, they weren’t wrong. Keoghan’s Joker looks nothing like the ones who came before him. His face is mostly messed up, and he laughs the Joker laugh.
Either way, the studios are starting to show more of the supervillain from The Batman, which could mean that his big debut is coming up in The Batman 2. Falcone’s right-hand man, the Penguin, could also become a major bad guy in the next Batman movie. He has the connections to do it, and he seems to have been sitting on the sidelines for too long. The Penguin’s spinoff show could easily lead into his story in the second movie, while Arkham Asylum would get people ready for a new Joker.
Does The Joker Appear In Batman 2?
Since the famous bad guy showed up in The Batman, it’s more likely that he will appear in The Batman 2. Even if they save the Joker’s big bad role for the last movie, he could play a bigger role as the series goes on. In the scene that was cut, Batman goes to Arkham Asylum to ask the Joker about the Riddler. The Joker looks through police files before getting close to Bruce Wayne’s mind. The hero has to leave as the villain’s creepy laughter fills the cell. Since Wayne is meeting with the Joker, there’s no doubt that he’ll play a bigger part in the next Batman movie.
Due to the character’s bad reputation in the Batman universe, it took a long time to show him to the public. He could be the main bad guy in the second Batman movie. But Reeves seems to be hiding information about the character for as long as possible, and a fight with the Joker would be a better fit for the last movie in the series.
Will Court Of Owls Be In The Batman 2?
It’s not clear if the Court of Owls will be the main bad guy(s) in The Batman sequel, but the way the movie ends makes it clear that they will be. This is made clear by the fact that the movie is very realistic and focuses on organized crime, and that the Court of Owls is made up of the most corrupt people in Gotham. Since things will only get worse in Gotham after the Riddler, the Court of Owls could be the next big thing in The Batman 2 or at least be a part of it. It is said that Robert Pattinson has shown his support for this idea. Even though he says it’s just a guess, if the movie’s star is saying it, it might not be too far from the truth.
The Batman 2 Cast
Robert Pattinson, Zo Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis will probably be back as Batman, Catwoman, Jim Gordon, and Alfred, respectively. Since Riddler was caught, Paul Dano probably won’t come back, but he could always come back in a smaller role. Joker, played by Barry Keoghan, could also have a bigger part in The Batman 2. In addition to the Penguin and the Joker, The Batman 2 could also focus on Hush (aka Tommy Elliot), a villain who was heavily teased by Edward Elliot in the first movie.
The Batman sequel might also include villains from the comics who weren’t in the first movie, like Clayface, Scarecrow, and so many other great characters from Batman’s Rogues Gallery. The Court of Owls and Robin might also make their first appearances in the next film. If not, some of these less well-known bad guys are sure to show up in the Arkham Asylum TV show.

The Batman 2 Release Date
The global pandemic caused a lot of delays for The Batman, especially since filming started right before lockdown and stopped for a few months. Filming started back up again in 2020.
The Batman was supposed to come out in the summer of 2021. Based on how long it took to film and edit the first movie, The Batman 2 might not come out until at least the summer or fall of 2024. But The Batman producer Dylan Clark says fans shouldn’t expect the sequel to take more than five years to come out. In the meantime, four possible spinoff shows that will add to the world of The Batman are in the works.
