There was never any purpose to cause bodily or mental injury, which rules out any abuse on Depp’s behalf, and “neither party has fabricated false charges for financial benefits,” which rules out any such motive on Heard’s part.
Heard, who apparently received $7 million in the deal, declared that she will donate her payout to charity, splitting it between the ACLU and the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. This seems to be done to support the second part of the aforementioned joint statement. (This will be discussed again.) Heard couldn’t have been lying about Depp assaulting her for money, the news appeared to imply, because she received no monetary settlement in the divorce. Unless her claim was correct, she would have no reason to make it.
However, tabloids such as TMZ quickly took a side, siding with Depp and branding Heard a liar. Heard alleges in her op-ed that she was fired from a movie and a fashion ad campaign after speaking out. Meanwhile, Depp continued his job. It was confirmed in December 2016 that he will have a significant part in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film series, which is a spinoff of the Harry Potter film series.

The comments “make it sound like Heard is being tried for a slew of violent crimes against Depp, not being sued for a newspaper editorial,” Mel magazine writes.
