According to posts on LinkedIn Posts by people who have lost their jobs because of Amazon’s job cuts, Amazon To Lay off Thousands of Employees, It was said this week that the company plans to get rid of 10,000 jobs, which is about 3% of its office staff.
When the BBC asked Amazon for a comment, Amazon did not answer right away.
It comes at a time when the tech industry is cutting thousands of jobs because sales are slowing and worries about a recession are rising. The BBC saw posts from people who worked for Amazon’s Alexa virtual assistant, Luna cloud gaming platform, and Lab126, the company that made the Kindle e-reader.
Amazon To Lay off Thousands of Employees
One employee who said she worked as a software development engineer in the US posted that she was looking for a new job: “Due to the nature of my visa, I have a limited amount of time to look for new work opportunities.”
Another Amazon worker who was affected by the layoffs said, “Of course I’m sad, but I’m optimistic about the future because I know this is a good change for me and others on my team.”
The company had already put a hold on hiring and stopped some warehouse expansions because it thought it had hired too many people during the pandemic. It had also taken steps to shut down some parts of its business. For example, it stopped working on a project to make a personal delivery robot.

Jeff Bezos, the founder and chairman of Amazon, said that the US economy was sending a message to “batten down the hatches” last month.

“Budgets and staffing are getting smaller right now.” He said that technology companies, like Amazon, will probably be hit the hardest.
“Amazon is really, really fat. So there are a lot of people there, but they don’t add much value, so they’re the first ones to go.”
