The body of a 96-year-old woman was found in a freezer in a garage in the Portage Park area on Monday night.
Chris Tye of CBS 2 reported that cops confiscated a freezer from a two-detached flat’s rear garage on the 5500 block of West Melrose Street. Police officers were inside and outside the building, with crime scene tape hanging up in the alleyway.
By Monday night, nobody had been taken into custody. As of Monday night, authorities still hadn’t explained what happened or who put the body in the garage freezer.
The decomposed body was found in the freezer at 4:33 p.m. It was announced over the police scanner that the full freezer load was being transported to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Concerned neighbors stated they had no idea an elderly woman resided there.

“Just a family of three, I’m guessing – a mom, dad, and her kid,” said neighbor Hector Ramirez.
The news of the discovery stunned Ramirez.
“I just want to find out what happened,” he said. “It’s messed up, honestly – and especially that it’s right next to us.”
Those who may have information about this find are urged to contact the authorities.
