Eden Medical Hospital got three more victims. Later in the afternoon, one of the people who had been hurt was let go. The other people are still getting care, and their condition is said to be stable. Treva Reid, a member of the Oakland City Council, said that most of the people who were shot are students and that they are all adults. Campus schools go up to the 12th grade.

“Today’s shooting at an Oakland school was a horrifying act of violence that has grown too familiar,” said California Governor Gavin Newsom in a tweet. “Yet again, our kids were in the crossfire. This cannot continue – gun violence has taken too much from our communities.”

At this point, the only thing law enforcement has said about the possible shooter or shooters is that they “fled” the scene. Authorities said that they are still looking for one shooter, but it is possible that more than one person was involved.

They said that they are looking into where the shooting happened. They said that it happened in the “proximity” and “threshold” of campus, which suggests that it may have started outside and moved inside.

“Today’s gun violence at Sojourner Truth school shocks the soul — our schools are sanctuaries for our children,” Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said in a tweet. “Our investigators report all six victims are adults + being treated for injuries at hospitals now. The school is now clear + all children being reunited w/ families.”

Schaaf said, “It’s not okay that people can get guns without any limits in our country.” Parents are being asked by Bay Area Technology School to pick up their kids at the Higher Ground Church at the end of Fontaine Street. Sojourner Truth Independent Study is an alternative school with 147 students in grades K–12, according to the Oakland Unified website.

Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong announced a plan to stop gun violence in the city on Tuesday. Part of the plan was to add eight officers to the criminal investigation unit. As more people join Oakland’s ranks in the coming months, more senior officers will be added to the unit.

This comes after nine people were shot and killed in the city in nine days.
