Exclusive Report Confirms, 2 Dead And 2 Injured in South Memphis Shooting

The Memphis Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Monday Feb. 27, 2023, morning, leaving two individuals dead and two others injured.

Family members have confirmed that 22-year-old Cory Blocker, a father-to-be, was one of the victims of today’s shootings.

According to a tweet from the Memphis Police Department-

At 9:40 am, officers responded to a shooting at W Essex and Arkansas St. 4 male victims were located, 2 were pronounced deceased on the scene and 2 were transported to ROH, one critical and one non-critical. There was no suspect info. Call 901-528-CASH w/tips.

A police official confirmed via email Monday afternoon that one of the victims was still in critical condition.

On February 27, 2023, shooting broke out on Essex Avenue, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and the injuries of two others who were taken to a Memphis hospital.

An injured person had recently been released from the hospital.

Both Blocker’s daughter and his unborn child may trace their ancestry back to Katictrese Taylor. The grandchild’s mother, who is facing fresh challenges, is her granddaughter.

“She’s not doing [well],” Taylor said.

One man, who declined to be identified, said the gunfire sounded like a “war zone.”

“We just had the baby shower Saturday. He was so happy,” said Sharon Martin of Blocker. Martin said she is the great-grandmother of Blocker’s children.

“He’s got another little girl, and we have to explain to her that her father’s gone,” she said.
