15-year-old Shot Outside Toronto High School in Critical Condition

Following a gunshot during the lunch hour outside a high school in Toronto’s Weston neighborhood, a Grade 10 student was taken to the hospital in critical Condition.

Just after noon, it occurred in a parking lot outside Weston Collegiate Institute, close to Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue.

Duty. According to Insp. Ryan Forde, the 15-year-old boy, was shot in “the upper chest area” by a gang of males approaching him as he left the school building.

“After he was shot he ran back into the school, where he was tended to by teachers and faculty,” Forde told reporters. “The victim was subsequently transported to a local trauma centre where he is currently in critical care.”

Forde stated that investigators search the neighborhood for “witnesses and video footage” but are not currently able to describe the individuals or the suspect car.

While lunch break had just started, he claimed several pupils were there when the shooting occurred. It’s unclear whether any of those youngsters saw the shooting.

“The suspect information at this time is just that unknown males drove by and obviously shot this gentleman. They made good on their escape in an unknown direction,” he said. “This is a residential area. So if there is any homeowners in the area who have either dash cam or residential camera footage that would be greatly appreciated.”

Lockdown Lifted After About Two Hours

Weston Collegiate Institute went into lockdown as soon as the incident was over.

Nevertheless, shortly after 2 p.m., that order was rescinded, and kids were sent to two adjacent elementary schools to finish the day.

Ryan Bird, a Toronto District School Board spokesman, told reporters that staff members had spent the afternoon trying to “keep as great a sense of normalcy as possible.”

Nonetheless, he acknowledged that many people in the school community would be affected by the occurrence, particularly those who helped the youngster before the paramedics arrived.

“Obviously after something like this happens that’s got to be tremendously difficult. So we’ll be reaching out to make sure that we’re providing support not only for the staff directly impacted following the injury but also to students and staff elsewhere in the school,” he said.

Emergency Task Force Officers Cleared the School

On Thursday afternoon, Weston Collegiate Institute was surrounded by police tape, and several anxious parents were waiting for the lockdown to end at one point.

One mother told CP24 that she received a message from a friend inside the School informing her of the lockdown just as her Grade 10 daughter arrived home for lunch.

“I am scared, trembling, shook, like I can’t believe it,” the woman said. “All her friends are in there right now. If she didn’t come home for lunch she would be in there too.”

According to Bird, there are numerous security cameras inside and outside of the school. Still, he could not confirm whether any of them were pointed in the direction of the parking lot where the shooting occurred.

While police continued their investigation at th, still, he stated that the School had been cleared by members of the Emergency Task Team but would remain primarily off-limits.

It’s uncertain how that will affect tomorrow’s start of classes.

“Obviously we are thinking of the student who is injured today,” Bird said. “We are thinking of him, his family, his loved ones and the staff and students here at the school right now.”

The shooting is the most recent violence at a GTA school in the preceding months.

Two persons were shot in front of Woburn Collegiate Institute in Scarborough in October, shortly after the day’s classes ended. Jefferson Peter Shardeley Guerrier, age 18, was one of them; he was later declared deceased.

A few weeks later, a stabbing inside Birchmount Park Collegiate left a 17-year-old student with potentially fatal wounds. Mayor John Tory called a meeting with police, municipal administration, and TDSB members to determine how to react to the recent violence.
