12-year-old Boy Shot in Brooklyn Apartment Building

Police say that a 12-year-old boy was shot in the lobby of an apartment building in Brooklyn on Tuesday night. According to the NYPD, the preteen was shot in the left shoulder at 9:20 p.m. in the 325 Bristol St. building in Brownsville.

Police said they don’t know if the shooting was on purpose or by accident. The child was taken to Maimonides Medical Center and was found to be in good health.

The victim’s cousin, Saiquan Burgess, who is 25 years old, told The Post that his younger relative was hanging out in the lobby with a few other kids before the shooting.

When the shots were fired, Burgess was upstairs in his apartment.

“When I came downstairs to ask him if he was OK, he said ‘(cousin) I got shot,’” Burgess said. “Then he looked at me and put his head down.”

He said the other youngsters in the lobby fled when Burgess made it downstairs.

So far, the 12-year-old has not been able to tell anyone anything about what happened. Police and law enforcement sources said one gun and a shell were found at the scene.
