A preliminary investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department indicated that a female motorist in a grey sedan heading northbound on the 170 Freeway exited at Magnolia Boulevard and ran a red light, striking a dark-colored Honda CRV carrying three persons, including a 10-month-old infant.

The impact force forced the Honda to flip, LAPD Detective Lisset Fuentes said.

Authorities said firefighters with the Los Angeles Fire Department worked to extract a 35-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man from the debris of the CRV.

Det. Fuentes stated that the male passenger in the CRV died, though it is unknown if he was proclaimed deceased at the scene or died from his injuries at the hospital.

The female in the CRV was rushed to the hospital and was believed to be in critical condition. The infant, who was not trapped in the truck, was hauled out and rushed to the hospital, where it is stated to be in stable condition and is likely to live.

The female driver of the grey sedan who ran the red light was also brought to the hospital and is likely to survive.

It is uncertain now if alcohol or drugs affected the crash.

Traffic in the vicinity was likely interrupted while investigators sought to gather evidence, and crews worked to clear the scene.
