An ad*lt was shot and injured at a middle school in suburban Las Vegas on Monday afternoon, but law enforcement officials said there was no further threat to the school while the search for the shooter continued.

The shooting was reported just before 12.40 pm at Ed Von Tobel Middle School, according to a statement from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. No students were injured.

In a letter sent to parents shortly after the shooting, the school’s principal stated that all pupils were safe in their classes after one person was hit by gunfire on campus but outside the school building.

The middle school, which is about a 15-minute drive northeast of the Las Vegas Strip, was placed on lockdown for approximately an hour as police cleared the campus.

The shooter was brought to the hospital, but authorities did not specify the extent of their injuries.

Police have also not stated whether the shooter was a school employee. However, in a statement issued hours after the shooting, Clark County School District Superintendent Jesus Jara expressed his condolences to “our staff member and their family as we pray for a speedy recovery.”
